The State Earnings Related Pension

The State Earnings Related Pension (SERPS) provided an additional earnings related state pension and was replaced in April 2002 by the State Second Pension (SP2).

An employee could leave SERPS subject to certain conditions using an Approved Personal Pension. This was known as contracting-out.
