The Basic State Pension

Provided that sufficient National Insurance contributions have been made, both employees and the the self-employed are entitled to receive the basic State Pension.

However self-employed people are not eligible for membership of the State Earnings Related Pension Scheme (SERPS) or its replacement the State Second Pension (S2P) which has been available since April 2002.

You can receive a forecast of how much State Pension you are likely to receive from the Pension Service by completing form BR19 available from your local DSS office.
