Avoid Becoming a Victim of Credit Card Fraud

12 steps to help you avoid becoming a victim of credit card fraud

  • Always use common sense – be diligent. Keep an eye on your credit card and whenever possible try not to let it out of your sight.
  • Do not give out your account number or credit card details over the phone unless you have made the call and you know the company is reputable. A legitimate company will not ask you for these details over the phone.
  • Never provide your card details via email or on a non-secure web site.
  • Sign all credit cards as soon as you receive them.
  • Do not keep written records of your PIN numbers and never leave your receipts lying around. Wherever possible shred them.
  • Only carry cards that you need and carry them separately from your purse or wallet.
  • Keep a list of all your cards in a secure place along with bank contact details which can be used in the event of theft.
  • Always check your statements and query any uncertainties.
  • Destroy any receipts or statements as soon as you can – in the mean time keep them safe.
  • Never lend your card to anyone.
  • Don’t let people or possible hidden cameras see you enter you PIN number.
  • Notify your bank of any change of circumstances.
